Care
& Feeding of a Fine Band Uniform
It is very important that your band
uniform be kept in good condition. The uniforms have been provided
by the Parkway School District and must last approximately 10 years.
All students are responsible for dry cleaning their jackets and jumpsuits
after every performance, time permitting. American Cleaners on
Clayton Road (next to St. Louis Bread Co.) will provide cleaning services
for $3.99.
Gloves should be hand-washed in
cool water - in order to avoid mold, they should not be stored in the hat
box. Some instrument sections cut the ends off their gloves to
enhance fingering. Marching shoes should be polished and
water-proofed regularly. Hats, baldrics, plumes, and gauntlets
(anything with sequins or trim) will remain at school between
performances. Baldrics are stored in tubs, while hats and gauntlets
are stored in assigned hat boxes. Plumes are stored in special tubes
and carrying case.
When dressing to march, wear a
black T-shirt under your jacket. Your nylon garment bag should
be used to keep your uniform and accessories together and to allow them
all to breathe. Before performances, Booster Parents will be
available to assist with taping gauntlets and jacket sleeves, if
necessary.
