Fundraising Overview

Note:  All students are expected to participate in the Arts & Crafts Fair (as well as their families) since it is such a large event and represents such a large portion of our fundraising activity.  While students may choose whether to participate in individual fund-raisers, these are offered as a means of assisting students in meeting their annual Band fees.

Individual Fundraising

Car Washes

Several car washes will be held this summer season; some will be held at the Shell Station on Clayton Rd. and some will be held at Sheridan's Frozen Custard in Hilltown Village Center (check weekly announcements for details).  These washes will be held on June 11 (Shell), June 25 (Sheridan's), July 16 (Sheridan's) and August 13 (Shell) - be sure to stop by, get your car washed, and support our band students.  Proceeds of the Car Washes will be split appropriately among the students participating.  Contact Beth Dela Rosa if you are interested in participating.

Entertainment Book Sales

Entertainment books will be available again this year and provide a great opportunity for customers to save money with its coupons and for students to earn money for their band account.  The books are sold for $22.00 each and each carry hundreds of dollars in coupons.  The profit from each book's sale will benefit the student's account directly (and you can earn 1 free book for every 5 books sold).  This year's books are valid from August, 2005 through November, 2006 - they can be sold on-line and can even be sold for other geographic areas (for distant friends and family).  The sale will kick off in August - contact Mary Mueller with questions or to help.

Scrip Program

Scrip is a word meaning "substitute money" and it comes in the form of gift certificates from national and local retailers that participate in the program.  These are the same gift certificates that are purchased in the stores themselves (e.g. Dillard's, Kohl's, The Gap, St. Louis Bread Company, etc.), except that the retailers agree to sell them to our band at a discount.  Certificates are purchased for full face value (and are redeemed for full face value), and our band keeps the difference between that face value and the specially-discounted price.  The difference is split evenly between the Band general fund and your student's band account.  Different retailers offer different levels of discounts - ranging from 3% to 25%.  Scrip orders are taken monthly and most dates coincide with Booster Meetings.  Once orders are placed, Scrip is typically available the following week.  A small inventory of popular Scrip is kept on-hand - these include Kohl's, Chili's, Macaroni Grill, St. Louis Bread Co., and Home Depot.  Click here for an updated list of participating merchants.  Call Kirsten Schwartz for more information.    Click here for an order form.

Magazine Sale

The magazine sale is one fundraiser that can involve as much direct selling or as little direct selling as you want - yet, it still offers significant profit for your student's band account.  The Band partners with a noted magazine distributor to offer subscriptions to many popular magazines at very competitive rates; your student earns a percentage of the subscription price.  We will have the choice to take brochures to our friends, neighbors, and family to sell subscriptions - or we can simply provide names and mailing addresses and let the magazine distributor do the rest.  Our students will earn 45 - 50% profit, depending on which sales method is used.  Kathy Heilich will be chairing this event; it will commence in late July and orders will be due in mid-August.

General Fundraising

Pizza Hut Nights

Our friends at Pizza Hut continue to partner with us in this fund-raising effort.  When you visit the Lamp & Lantern Pizza Hut location on designated evenings and let them know you are with the Band, a percentage of your bill will be donated to the Band's general fund.  The dates of our next "Pizza Hut Nights" are August 17, September 21. October 19, November 16, December 21, and January 18.  Plan now to enjoy dinner at Pizza Hut with your family and friends - and help the Band at the same time.

Trivia Night

Line up the trivia buffs in your family and neighborhood and sign up now for a table at the second annual Booster Trivia Night.  What a great way to share a fun evening and raise funds for the Boosters!  The Trivia Night will be held on Saturday, August 6 at Trinity Lutheran Church at 14088 Clayton Rd..  Doors will open at 6:30 pm.  A trivia contest and silent auction will be conducted from 7:00 - 10:30 pm.  The evening will feature cash prizes, raffles, and door prizes.  You will want to bring along appetizers, munchies, and desserts to share with your table (8 people per table); soft drinks and chips will be provided.  Beer and wine will be available for sale.  Admission is $15.00 per person.  Click here to see the details.  You may contact Mary Piper or Jennifer Sloane with questions or to enroll!

Arts & Crafts Fair

The 22nd annual Arts & Crafts Fair will be held on Saturday, October 1 and Sunday, October 2 on the campus of Parkway West High School.  This is one of the premiere fairs of its kind in the area and plans are already underway to ensure that it will be successful for the Band as well as for the crafters who will be offering a wide variety of arts, crafts, and hand-made treasures for sale.  The fair will feature over 200 crafters, a bake sale, a silent auction table, and plenty of refreshments.  More details will be forthcoming - each student will assist the crafters in their loading and unloading while each family will pitch in with donations and time.  Michelle Steinhouse and Stacey Dannegger are co-chairs of this major event; give them a call for more information.  Plan now to help make this year's fair a good one!
